In our country there is a legal framework on animals adapted in each state, based on the following laws: General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection, General Law of Wildlife and Federal Law of Animal Health.
The Federal Law on Animal Health is defined as: "the set of activities aimed at providing comfort, tranquility, protection, and safety to animals during their breeding, maintenance, exploitation, transport and slaughter".
In Mexico City, authorities and members of civil society worked together to create the Animal Protection Law in which Article 1, modified in 2019, establishes the protection of animals "to guarantee their welfare, provide them with care, good treatment, maintenance, accommodation, natural development, health and avoid mistreatment, cruelty, suffering, zoophilia and the deformation of their physical characteristics. It also ensures animal health, public health, and the five freedoms of the animal, which are: freedom from hunger, thirst and malnutrition, fear and anguish, freedom from physical or thermal discomfort, pain, sickness and injury, and freedom to express their own behavior patterns.” 1
In its local constitution: "Animals are recognized as sentient beings, therefore it is mandatory for people to treat them with dignity and respect their life and integrity as sentient beings." 2
