Dr. Raúl Valadez exposes already confirmed data about the origin of cats:

"[...] It is in the Egyptian culture where evidence of strong man-cat interaction is found through stories, iconographic representations and mummified bodies. It is in this region where the Felis sylvestris lybica lives, a species with the biological attributes necessary to be considered the direct ancestor of the domestic cat."

Miw or "migüer" would be the word for cat in the Egyptian language. According to what the scientist documents, cats were not given a name like dogs, except for a single known case found in Thebes during the XVIII Dynasty period (1555-1335 BC), where the name “the pleasant one” was engraved inside a tomb.

In the Old Kingdom (2,900-2,270 BC) cats and other animals had their own temples and were mummified when they died. Valadez also mentions that "in wall paintings and reliefs of the XVIII and XIX Dynasties in Thebes (1555-1205 BC), cats appear in many poignant scenes as beloved pets, sometimes jeweled and frequently under the chair of the lady of the house."

Comparing the characteristics of wild cats with those already domesticated, Dr. Valadez analyzes the historical bond of cats and humans and reveals that the behavior of the two animals have similarities like possessing a territory in which their den is located and a tendency to a solitary character, which is still one the main characteristics of the domestic cat, even when sharing its space with people.

Valadez wonders "To what extent has Man been able to modify the organism called a cat to the point of adjusting it to his needs and interests? Was there really a human-controlled manipulation work which turned wild cats into forms adapted to our lifestyle? And finally, in this man-cat duality, who tamed who?"
