A Dog's life, an American film directed by Charles Chaplin in 1918, is considered the first silent film where a mutt (mixed breed dog) called Scraps is the lead character and the hero.

Growing up in a Jewish neighborhood in London’s East End, Chaplin learned first-hand the difficulties of life on the streets. In many of his films, he addresses inequality, social injustice and discrimination without missing a critical gaze and masterful ingredient of humor.

In this link you can enjoy the film and the adventures that Chaplin and Scraps share as homeless facing, each in its own way, the great urban maelstrom.
